Animal Okapia johnstoni of the giraffe
family, though with much shorter legs and
neck, found in the tropical rainforests of
central Africa. Purplish brown with creamy
face and black and white stripes on the legs
and hindquarters, it is excellently
camouflaged. Okapis have remained virtually
unchanged for millions of years. Unknown to
Europeans until 1901, only a few hundred are
thought to survive.
